Candela Gentalase

How does the laser treatment work?
The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deep into skin tissue where it delivers a controlled amount of therapeutic heat. Candela's patented Dynamic Cooling DeviceT (DCDT) technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen. Together, the long-pulse laser and DCD cooling offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects.

What can I expect during treatment?
Treatment will take place in your practitioner's office. You will wear safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light. Your practitioner will guide the laser to the treatment areas with a small handheld probe. Each laser pulse may be preceded and followed by a short pulse of cooling spray. A treatment could take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area and condition being treated.

Does it hurt?
Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with the laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort is minimized by Candela's DCD cooling. For some patients, a topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment. Be sure to discuss this with your practitioner.

How many treatment sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. For hair removal, most people require at least 6 to 8 treatments, as the process is only effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase. Other conditions may clear in as few as one treatment, but many factors impact the efficacy of individual laser treatments, including the severity of the condition being treated.

How do I prepare for treatment?
Patients scheduled for hair removal should avoid electrolysis or hair waxing for six weeks prior to treatment. If you have had a history of perioral herpes and are scheduled for facial hair treatment, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. Also, any hair should be shaved, and your skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried, removing any makeup, cream, or oils on its surface before laser treatment.

What can I expect after treatment?
Patients should avoid sun exposure before and after treatment, and should apply sunblock (SPF 30 or above) when going outdoors.

Are there side effects?
Your risks are minimal. Side effects may include purpura (a laser bruise), redness, blistering, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, and swelling in the treated area-these usually do not last more than a few days. Permanent side effects, such as hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation or scarring, are rare.

What precautions should I take after treatment?
After laser treatment, avoid sun exposure. In the first few days after treatment, don't scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Your practitioner may advise additional precautions.

Are these treatments covered by insurance?
Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. Some carriers will, however, cover the treatment of disfiguring birthmarks such as hemangiomas. Consult your insurance carrier for conclusive information.

Laser Hair Restoration

How does the laser treatment work?
Laser therapy reactivates hair growth by stimulating live, but weakened, follicles at the cellular level. It does not reactivate dead follicles.

Is laser therapy right for me?
Laser therapy is effective for patients who want to improve weak or thinning hair. However, it does not work for areas of the scalp that are totally bald.

How soon should I expect to see results
Some patients may see improvement in a few weeks. But significant changes should not be expected for six to 12 months.

Does it work for women too?
Yes. Laser therapy is a safe and effective treatment for many types of female hair loss.

What other treatment options are available?
Laser therapy can be effective, but the best strategy is to use a multi-therapy approach which may include: Propecia (finasteride), Rogaine (minoxidil), and nutritional supplements.

How do I know it's working?
Anyone who has hair loss should visit a practioner who specializes in hair restoration and is familiar with what laser therapy can do. Baseline photos and density measurements should be documented before starting treatment. Early results can be subtle, so careful tracking and follow-up is crucial. Discuss with your practioner appropriate expectations before starting therapy.

PPx Therapy

How does the treatment work?
A "pulling up" motion gently lifts a small amount of the treatment area into a specially designed hygienic treatment tip. Targets (unwanted hair, unwanted pigments and unsightly veins) are lifted and brought closer to the skin's surface. When therapeutic light is applied, the light is converted to a gentle heat energy which is absorbed by the target (unwanted hair, unwanted pigments and unsightly veins). The energy applied is concentrated in the target to be destroyed, protecting the surrounding normal tissue

Does it hurt?
No. In a recent clinical study, 100% of patients reported no pain during treatment. Treatment sensation was most commonly described as being similar to that of a warm massage.

Are there side effects?
Treatments are relaxing and not associated with side effects such as the redness, crusting or other usual post treatment discomforts

What can I expect during treatment?
Before treatment begins, your physician will apply a soothing mist to your skin, to hydrate it. Your treatment provider will place the Aesthera handpiece on the area to be treated. Based on your skin type (the amount of melanin in your skin) and the body part being treated, appropriate settings will be selected. You will feel a gentle and warm sensation as your skin is drawn into the treatment tip.

What can I expect after treatment?
There are no post-treatment regimens associated with PPx Therapy. So once your treatment is done, you are free to resume your normal activities.

Is it safe?
PPx therapy is upto 5x efficient in the delivery of energy to unwanted hair, pigment and veins. This highly efficient delivery of energy allows PPx therapy to use a fraction of the energy that other treatments require, making PPx therapy safer than other treatment modalities.
